Looking out for each other
We are an organization in which citizens are committed to greater mercy. We are convinced that a world in which we help and support each other becomes nicer, better and more humane.
Compassion starts in one’s own immediate vicinity. We encourage each other to put into practice a compassionate attitude to life at home, in the family, in our neighborhood and at work.
In society, we also want to encourage others (individuals and institutions) to focus more on compassion. And where necessary, we will denounce ruthlessness. Our social efforts also focus on our dealings with nature.
We are convinced that compassion is ultimately an important cornerstone for the quality of our coexistence and our civilization.
We know we still have a long way to go for a more compassionate world, but that doesn’t make us despondent. On the contrary; it stimulates us to make our commitment even greater.
We have a few thousand members right now, and we are growing fast. Our aim is to get much bigger and create more awareness.
By the way, we do not call our ‘members’ a member but a ‘shareholder in a better world’. We believe this is a , because they are in fact. Of course, our shares do not pay off in terms of the stock market, but they pay off in terms of compassion and humanity.
The Charter for Compassion Netherlands originated twenty-five years ago as a volunteer movement of Roman Catholic believers. In the meantime, we have broadened considerably; we are there for people from different religions and for people who are not religious but are inspired by mercy. That’s not surprising when you realize that compassion is a cornerstone in all religions and philosophies of life.
We have merged with the Dutch branch of the Charter for Compassion, with which our work also took on an international dimension. But most of our efforts are focused on the Netherlands.
We promote mercy in all kinds of ways: in courses, meetings, discussions, lectures, opinion contributions, webinars, movies and literature.
Our ‘shareholder for a better world’ is also open to foreigners. The costs are from € 10 per year and you can register via .
